I spent most of my career in the wonderful
world of textiles (apart from 6 years with Lancashire Constabulary.....an
obvious career path I know). Through textiles I have been
afforded amazing opportunities.
Not only have I travelled to places that are not normal tourist destinations
- such as Karachi and Tel Aviv but also met some incredibly inspiring
people. In truth, this is where I would still like to be, but being
a mother to Imogen has meant a change of direction. I do not say
that with regret but acknowledgement of how lucky I have been.
It was through textiles that Imogen and
I found ourselves living
in Istanbul. It was amazing to experience a different way of living
- some good (wonderful food, fantastic weather and immense kindness)
and some bad (Turkish drivers, roads, traffic laws - they appear
to be optional!) and to make us realise how culturally unique each
country really is.

Deciding to come home to Cardiff after 17
years meant leaving textiles behind.....and it was then, by chance,
I discovered costume
jewellery. I got the same buzz from it as I did from textiles and
the fact that it is linked to fashion means it is dynamic. Although
running major national and international accounts is challenging working
at 'by Imogen' I am able to offer a more personal level
of service. I would like to think that this experience has taught
me that it is not only great products at the right price that is
important, but to be truly customer focused. Thus, we will endeavour
to adhere to the highest standards at all times.
Why get involved with charities and schools?
Well, in one
way or other we have all been affected by an illness or event has
made us seek the help, advice or support of a charity. My family
has been connected with George Thomas Hospice in Cardiff since it
was first conceived as an idea more than 20 years ago. After years
of devoted support and fund raising the charity aspired to its own
hospice building only 18 months ago. Whilst this has been the collective
result of many I would take this opportunity to acknowledge
the unwavering dedication of my parents, Margaret and Paul to
this cause.
We certainly all have a connection to a school - whether directly
through our own children, or nieces and nephews or grandchildren.
And so an idea was borne. A business, but
one that could do some good too.........
